A New Dawn

Greetings choristers and families!

It's been a wonderful start to our spring season in our chorus family! Choristers hit the ground running with our new structure, our new director, Mr. D and our exciting new repertoire for our spring concert, A New Dawn ! We also had a blast hosting some friends visiting and welcoming new members. Check out what we've been up to below!

The children's chorus have been working hard on developing their understanding of rhythms, solfege and meaning within their pieces this past month. In our song, Jasmine flower, we explored and connected to the meaning of the song as well as how the Japanese culture and their use of the pentatonic scale is woven into it. We also got familiar with the instrumentation used in the song and enjoyed hearing finger cymbals in person and also smelling the scent of the jasmine flower! In our song, The Bumblebee, we explored the rhythms and how the melody changes pace throughout the song. We also took note of the variances of the 'buzzing' of the bumblebee, paying close attention to the direction of the notes. In our song, Imagine, choristers unpacked and connected to the meaning of the lyrics and how it relates to our entire spring concert. We got to sing along with Bob and look forward to learning sign language to accompany it!

The youth chorus has been working hard and singing beautifully. During these first few rehearsals we have diving into some different musical styles from gospel, to American musical theatre, to motets.  We have explored a variety of languages and even some movements tied to the style and genres of our music.  It’s been exciting getting to know each of the kiddos and see their talents shine.

As always, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns and we appreciate you supporting your chorister at home!

~Ms. Yoder and Mr. D
